Beginning as a request from a photo, CatzPaw took a b/w photo from Bill Lane and several color photos along with dimensions from Mark Charles and created what you see here.
This vehicle is motorized and operates from a small hand held remote control. It is capable of moving forwards and backwards. Powered by a 3.7v rechargeable lithium ion battery and an N20 dual axle motor running at 15 RPM. The rail wheels can be raised and lowered, allowing the vehicle to switch between road and rail operation.
The chassis has been designed to allow the end-user to tinker and install their own electronics. Perfect for those who wish to convert the vehicle to DCC control.
NOTE: The vehicle can successfully operate on various track types on straight and curved sections (as seen below in the videos). However, due to various sizes and spacing, successful navigation through turn-outs is not guaranteed. Slight modifications may need to be made to the rail wheel mounting to accommodate your specific layout, i.e. not pushing them all the way on to the axle.
STL/3MF files are also available for those who want to 3D print the vehicle themselves. The file usage is governed by the Standard Digital File License as follows: the user shall not share, sub-license, sell, rent, host, transfer, or distribute in any way the digital or 3D printed versions of this object, nor any other derivative work of this object in its digital or physical format (including - but not limited to - remixes of this object, and hosting on other digital platforms). The Track Inspection Vehicle has been designed to operate on rail, road, and of course the InvisaTrax® Transport System. Checkout the following videos to see it in action.
